Gotland sheep originates from the small Swedish viking island Gotland in the Baltic Sea. With their silky grey curls they are considered by many to be the most desirable sheep skins. They are also one of the most durable type of skins, and they wont felt or become matted even after many years of everyday use.
Gotland Skins Currently we offer Gotland Lambskin in the 3 common wool lengths:
Gotland Lambskins - Uncut ( Wool length is approx. 100-200 mm.) Truly luxurious skins that display the glossy curly locks at their absolute best. Only the best quality of skins are suitable to remain uncut, and they are often used as throws.
Gotland Lambskins - Plaid Clip (Wool length is approx. 20-35 mm.) These are by far the most popular as they are very versatile skins, that will hold up equally well as throws and as rugs. The locks - even though they are shorter than the uncut skins - show off the hallmark gloss and gray shades very well.
Gotland Lambskins - Fur clip (Wool length is approx. 18-25 mm.) Skins with this wool length are often used for clothing - particularly for linings in coats and jackets. They are very suitable for lining in baby cots and prams as well, since they are easy to keep clean and will not tickle as much as skin with longer wool.
White Leicester Skins Purebred Gotlands sheep are grey - without exception. But their cousin the white Leicester sheep have the same beautiful glossy curls as the Gotland sheep, as well as a lovely white ivory colour. Currently we carry only plaid clipped skins, but we offer these lovely white skins in other wool lengths occasionally depending on availability.
Fur clip (short) weighs approximately 1-1.5 kg. Plaid Clip (medium) weighs approximately 1.5-2 kg. Burrclip (long) weighs approximately 2-2.5 kg. Uncut (very long) weighs approximately 2.5-3 kg.
